Standard Practice for Digital Interchange of Geotechnical Data

AASHTO PP 102

Organization:
AASHTO - American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
Year: 2020

Abstract: This standard practice requires the standard data transfer protocol for geotechnical data known as Data Interchange for Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (DIGGS). The most current version of the DIGGS schema is actively updated, maintained, and accessed at. The DIGGS schema is developed and expanded as open-source code. The Geo-Institute (GI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) maintains the DIGGS schema under the direction of the GI’s DIGGS Advisory Council. Each released version is vetted by the GI’s DIGGS Standard Committee and the DIGGS Advisory Council. All geotechnical data presented as numerical values shall conform to the guidelines for significant digits and rounding established in ASTM D6026 and reported as established in the DIGGS schema. While this Standard defines practice that allows the consistency and completeness of data to be preserved, this Standard does not purport to cover quality control or quality assurance measures that should be required for the original geotechnical data. Procedures to assure and manage data quality and security are beyond the scope of this standard. Note 1—Geotechnical data transferred from sources that do not capture the data defined in the schema create the potential for incomplete data when transferred into any system requiring this standard. The DIGGS schema is designed to be extensible in order to capture data not currently captured in the schema, or to accommodate new information and test procedures. Geotechnical interpretation, reduction, and application of transferred data are beyond the scope of this standard.
